Description:
This campaign was split into two sections, logo design & redesign, along with menu layout design.

The owner of the restaurant, The Landing, in Fountain City reached out asking me to recreate two logo of past restaurants that shared the space, as well as one new logo. Along with the logos he asked for six menu layout designs. He wanted to honor the past restaurants through incorporating their logos in the new menus.

logo process.
For this campaign,
the client reached out to me requesting two logos of past restaurants that shared the space of his restaurant, along with a new logo.
Both Wally's & WingDam were recreated from images of past menus. Whereas, the Captain's logo was a new concept. The client mentioned that he wanted the logo for Captain's to have a captains wheel incorporated into the logo.
01.
To begin, I made
sure the client had rights to the past logos. He had the rights to them through the owners; however, he didn't have the files.
Because of this, I chose to hand trace the reference photos & vectorize the illustrations digitally.
Once I had the illustrations finished, I found similar typefaces to the originals so I could recreate the logos & make the changes that were requested.
02.
My final step was
creating the
Captain's logo. For the new logo, I incorporated his colors as per his request. I chose a slab serif typeface that matched the style my client wanted for the restaurant name.
During critique, the main change to the logo was flipping the wheel. Originally Captain's was on the top with the wheel on the bottom for textual hierarchy.

menu process.
Once the logos were finished, I got started on the layouts for the new menus.
When talking with the client, we discussed specifics for the menu layouts. He informed me of each type of menu he would need & what sections each menu should have.
01.
Most of the creativity was left up to me; the client requested I use their colors on each menu. The differentiating factor between the menus was mainly incorporating the different logos. Since each logo has different typefaces, I matched the menu type to each logo being used.
02.
In creating my
layouts, I chose to
keep a similar layout to create cohesion for the customer. My main focus was on visual hierarchy & guiding the customer through each menu in a way that felt natural to the eye.
